THE DVD OF PEOPLING THE PALACES
By popular demand, Volumina is preparing the DVD Peopling the Palaces by Peter Greenaway. The installation, unfolding in eleven rooms along the visit itinerary, narrates the life at court organised into five broad themes. For each, different artistic and technological solutions have been adopted.Besides the backstage material, the DVD also contains the single-screen reduction of the scenes that are 140 minutes long. At the Entrance, the visitor is welcomed by ten characters, emblems of court life. The noisy Kitchens are the domain of the tyrannical cook and the energic washer woman. In the Private Apartments, forty maids of honour chatting about combined marriages, unhappy love affairs, courtship and betrayal. All hunters in the Hunting room seem to be obsessed by the immense love for deer hunting and horses. The two large Assembly rooms are characterized by the slow procession of the court, while a band of gossips have fun running down the marquis and countesses.
